Kelly the Koala Fable

Kelly the Koala longed for a break from going to school. She dreamed about having a month off school apart from summer vacation. Therefore, she was ecstatic to hear that she would be having a week off school. The school year was getting stressful and she was looking forward to the break. She would relax, go out with friends, and jump from tree to tree. She did not like going to school every day because she had to wake up early and stay up late… well at least she ended up late because she was a “professional procrastinator” as she said. She always admired her friend, Sydney the Sloth, because Sydney never procrastinated and always took her time with her work, but she did not have much of a choice if she wanted good grades. She was not fast at typing or really anything, so she had to start early on her projects and papers. Both Kelly and Sydney wished for a break and were excited when they were told that they would have the week off. They were not concerned about the strange disease that had come to their vast forest. They planned on going out on the town all week and visiting their friend Ronny the Raccoon who lived in the big city. However, after the weekend passed, everything shut down. They were not allowed to see each other, and they had to do school online. The online schooling was not bad once everyone started to get used to it, but Kelly began to slack off more than usual. Even Sydney had trouble finding the motivation to not procrastinate her work, though she was still not able to procrastinate as much as Kelly or else her work would be at least a day late. Kelly began to miss going to school, something she never imagined could happen. The days were long and they began to blend together. Eventually everyone had to question what day it was because no one knew. The week off turned into the months she had wished for, but when she got it, she found that it was not what she had really wanted. When things opened back up, there were many restrictions, so the freedom that Kelly and Sydney had been hoping for after the months in solitude did not feel as free as they had hoped. Kelly the Koala regretted wishing for months off of school. The moral of the story is you must be careful what you wish for. You may get what you wished for, but it may not happen the way you want it to. School may not always be enjoyable, but we must make the best of each day and appreciate being able to go to school in person.
